A Bay Area native, John has been an active musician since the age of twelve. Having studied drums and percussion for five years at the South Bay School of Music Arts, he was involved in many activities from middle school into his college years, such as symphonic band where he received awards for merit and leadership. He was also active in jazz band and marching band, while playing high school football.
Throughout the years, he has also taken classes in art, drafting, theatre, acting and even dabbles in acoustic and bass guitar. He's been involved in several original band projects, where he obtained professional recording studio experience and is now in a professional cover band, in which he plays drums and sings backup vocals. John teaches out of his in-home studio and is also a volunteer member of the Board of Directors at the Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View.
John earned a B.S. in Urban Design at Arizona State University in 2000 and has been in the food service industry for fifteen years. He is the Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for his family's company, Fulfillment Systems, in Sunnyvale. He currently lives in San Jose with his wife, Kristin, their young son, Gabriel, and two cats. John and his family like to spend their free time traveling, being outdoors, and having family time.
John's specialties on drums include jazz, blues, rock, and percussion ensembles. He has a very laid back but focused teaching style, and believes that every student should work on their technique first, such as holding their sticks properly, before learning the drum set. The faster you learn technique, the faster you'll learn the drum set. He also believes that the more you practice, and the more you learn to relax and enjoy what your doing, then anyone can become a drummer!

I tell everyone who will listen about the amazing introduction to music that our daughter is getting with the Music Place. People are always amazed when a 3-year old explains that she played an oboe last week and is going to play a piccolo next week! Most importantly, our daughter can't wait for music class & asks to go every day. -- The Pace Family
