Steve began piano lessons at age 6, and started composing at age 9. Throughout his growing up years, Steve developed a love for many different styles of music, writing charts for concert band in high school, playing jazz piano in casual gigs, and later composing a symphony at the University of Arizona. Steve met his future wife, Nancy, while attending a small Bible college in Oklahoma and was challenged to use his musical gifts in the local church.
Beginning as a piano performance major, Steve also plays guitar, saxophone, clarinet and flute. He holds a B.A. in Music Composition from Tulsa University, where he apprenticed under noted composer, Otis Skillings. He has also studied under well-known arrangers/producers, Joseph Linn and Tom Fettke, and taken Master Choral Conducting classes from Dr. Charlene Archibeque (San Jose State University) and Dr. Gary Bonner (Azusa Pacific University). He has served for the past 30 years as a full-time pastor of worship and creative arts at various churches, directing choirs, bands, and orchestras of all ages, writing and producing musicals, publishing songs, and teaching voice and piano. Although he is comfortable teaching all styles of piano and enjoys teaching even the youngest students the basics, jazz and improvization are his specialty.
In addition to teaching, Steve especially loves spending time with his adult children and two young grandsons. He currently is working on two non-musical projects: helping to begin a retreat ministry for pastors and missionaries, and finishing a book written by his father, which he hopes to publish in 2010.

I tell everyone who will listen about the amazing introduction to music that our daughter is getting with the Music Place. People are always amazed when a 3-year old explains that she played an oboe last week and is going to play a piccolo next week! Most importantly, our daughter can't wait for music class & asks to go every day. -- The Pace Family
