Charlotte was born on the Gulangyu Island (also known as "piano island") in China, and comes from a family of piano players, opera singers, and music teachers. Inspired by her uncle who was a famous pianist, she began learning piano at the age of six. She completed the Association Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Piano Grade 8 exam in Hong Kong, shortly before she came to the United States and also holds a bachelors degree in Computer Information Systems.

After graduating from San Francisco State University, Charlotte worked as a software developer/systems analyst as her day job, and on weekends volunteered at her church as a piano accompanist. She began teaching piano to her two young daughters and found she really enjoyed sharing her musical skills in this way. As a result, she decided it would be fulfilling to share her love of music with others as well. In 2019, after completing the teacher training program, Charlotte joined the faculty of The Music Place and Arts Educators Group.

Her favorite pastimes include hiking, going to the beach and taking yoga, Pilates, or ballet classes. She also enjoys attending piano, symphony and ballet performances.

Teaching Style

Charlotte is very lively, supportive, encouraging and thorough in her teaching. She uses her natural creativity to motivate and connect with her students. She believes that learning should be a fun and enriching experience, and that proper technique is best learned at a young age.
