Elsa is a California native who grew up in the Bay Area. Elsa has been teaching piano since the late 1990's. Although her study was traditional and more formal, including time with Hans Boepple (Santa Clara University music professor and pianist) and Celia Mendes (noted Bay Area pianist), her experience with church music and serving as a wedding accompanist has equipped her well to teach a variety of styles of music. Elsa also sang in choirs in high school and college; in fact she met her husband of 20+ years in choir in college. She has two children, now teenagers, and taught piano during many of their school-age years while homeschooling them.
Elsa enjoys teaching children and adults. She uses a variety of method books including Alfred, Bastien, Faber & Faber and others. Elsa follows student interest whenever possible as far as music styles – she teaches a range of music including Christian, folk, classical, popular/contemporary and musical theater. Elsa teaches music theory together with piano technique and performance. She is a very patient teacher with a gentle, quiet manner; encouraging and supportive and not demanding. She hopes to foster a great love of music and piano playing in her students as music and piano have brought such enjoyment and happiness to her own life.

"Elsa's teaching style is so gentle and kind. She is the perfect first piano teacher for my daughter. Lessons are always fun. She is so patient and also a phenomenal pianist herself!" --Laura Jackson
"My child has been taking weekly, private piano lessons with Elsa for the past year and we couldn't be happier! After taking trial lessons with a few teachers, my daughter made up her mind that Elsa was the one for her. Elsa is soft spoken, gentle, patient, and provides a relaxing atmosphere that puts my daughter at ease. Instead of feeling like she's being judged for making mistakes, she feels nurtured and has taken great strides within the past year. Family members who haven't heard my daughter play in awhile are impressed with what she's learned in a short period of time!...
The main take-away is that my daughter loves to come to class every week and enjoys practicing at home. Elsa has helped to promote a love of learning and she works with me as a parent to explain the progress that is taking place and to help encourage the love of music over the concept of having to be competitive and perfect. I'm sure with my daughter, her competitive side will come out naturally and drive her to practice on her own due to the confidence she's gaining with each lesson." ~Christina, mother or Emma (7 years old)
