When Emily was a junior in high school, she was unclear about the direction of her life, and although from the age of 11, she was classically trained as a singer, she was looking to do something with her life that would benefit others more than simply performing for them. That same year, at a high school graduation ceremony, she heard someone announce that they were planning a career in music therapy. She had never heard of music therapy before so this caught her attention--so much so that she spent the entire summer between her junior and senior years finding out all she could about music therapy. When she discovered that she could combine her love for music and her passion for helping others in one career, she told The Music Place: "I was hooked!"

Emily went on to study music therapy and graduated from Loyola University in Lousianna with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy. While her internship included hundreds of hours with clients who had ASD and other cognitive issues, they consistently found that her bright affect was very engaging, exuding happiness in interactions with even the  most challenging clients.

In addition to vocal training,  Emily has taught adaptive piano and beginning guitar and her perky personailty is perfect for Early Music Awareness program. In a therapeutic setting, she has worked with chidlren as young as 2 years old and yet also enjoys teen-adult clients.  I her spare time, Emily is learning how to crochet.

Teaching/Therapy Style

Although she has worked with both ABA and NMT approaches, Emily prefers to conduct therapy in a style that is more chlid and family centered.
